Hazardous Weather Advice
June 1st marks the official beginning of Hurricane Season.
In New Orleans this means that along with continuing your hot weather safety measures such as drinking plenty of fluids, staying cool and protecting yourself from the sun, you should have plans for dealing with the sudden storms that appear with short notice. The New Orleans Regional Medical Center may experience a few incidents of hazardous weather including hail and minor flooding. Here are some suggestions:
Keep an umbrella available. Take one with you to lunch, stormy weather often appears during the summer.
Utilize the Crosswalks. Get into the habit of knowing where they are, and where they go so you'll have a foul weather contingency plan if you don't use them already. Even if you like the idea of walking at ground level, you'll have vehicles to contend with that you could have otherwise avoided.
Drive slowly, with your lights on. This means both on the streets, and in the garages. Visibility is reduced everywhere you drive, and water finds its way into enclosed garages to create slippery areas too.
**RAPE AGGRESSION DEFENSE CLASSES**
TUHSC Police Department will be offering a R.A.D. class on Friday June 20, 2008 beginning at 6:00 p.m. and on Saturday June 21, 2008 beginning at 8:30 a.m. This is a two day session and you must complete both days.
This course will be taught by TUHSC Police officers who are nationally certified R.A.D instructors. For additional information please contact Capt. S. North or Capt. J. Sullivan at 988-5531 or via email at rad@tulane.edu.
Help Diminish the Potential for Violence on Campus
A sound campus public safety policy must have zero tolerance for threats, harassment, aggressive/violent, or other types of inappropriate behavior by persons on campus. While it is our desire to provide an environment that is free of threats, intimidation, aggressive/violent, and other inappropriate behaviors, it is impossible to provide a guarantee, especially if it goes unreported. The prompt reporting of all such behavior (no matter how minor) for appropriate action is a necessary first step to minimize the associated risks and to help maintain a safe and secure environment.
Remember to report an incident contact TUHSC Police at extension 55555 for an emergency or 85531 for a non emergency situation. You can also report an incident by utilizing the Silent Witness Program available on our website.
BICYCLE PARKING TIPS!
TUHSC Police recommends that you secure your bicycles in the area provided by parking services. These areas include Tidewater 1 st floor bike room and the Medical School Garage bike room. Both of these areas can be accessed by contacting Tulane Parking Services located on the 8 th floor of the Tidewater Building .

Recently 3 bicycles have been reported stolen from the TUHSC Campus. The locations varied from the Lasalle Parking Garage to the 1400 block of Tulane Avenue to the 1400 block of Canal Street . These incidents were all reported to have occurred during daylight hours.
On Thursday 5/8/08 at approximately 1:00 p.m. a subject was apprehended outside of the Tidewater building attempting to cut a lock off of a bicycle. Please take our advice and use the recommended bicycle parking available to you through Parking Services.
Please report all incidents or suspicious activity as soon as safety permits. Remember to travel in numbers whenever possible, utilize crosswalks, park in well-lit and populated areas, and to use the TUHSC Police 24-hours Security Escort Services. Stop at the lobby post or call 988-5531 for information and safety brochures. In case of EMERGENCY call 988-5555 or 55555 if on campus, and 911 if off campus.
