SPECIAL SAFETY EDITION
The TUHSC Police Department continues to provide a constant police presence throughout the Downtown Campus. Due to the recent increase in crime in the area we have increased campus wide patrols especially in the areas surrounding the Murphy and Tidewater Buildings . This effort is an attempt to deter crime and undesirable behavior in the area along with reducing the response time for request for safety escorts. We strongly suggest that when traveling by foot to and from the Murphy and Tidewater Buildings that you use the Cleveland Avenue corridor as your route. It seem that the recent increase in crime in the area is attributed to the occupants of the local Hotels and Motels. Please report all suspicious activity to TUHSC Police as soon as possible.
TUHSC Police Officers will continue to patrol our campus on foot, bicycle, and in police vehicles. Always remember to call extension 55555 for emergencies and to report a crime in progress when on campus or for non-emergency issues call extension 85531. Also as a reminder TUHSC Police offer SAFETY ESCORTS throughout the campus 24 hours a day 7 days a week just call 988-5531 or extension 85531, or just request an escort from the TUHSC Police staff on duty at the building post.
TUHSC STUDENT AFTER HOURS PARKING
Presently Students are allowed to utilize the Murphy Parking Garage and Tidewater Parking Garage after hours and on weekends as follows:
Monday—Friday 5pm to 10 pm
Saturday 6 am to 10 pm
Sunday 10 am to 6 pm
In order to park during off peak times students must register and get a special parking pass from Parking Services on the 8th floor of the Tidewater Building . You will have to pay a refundable $20.00 deposit for this pass and show your vehicle registration and proof of insurance. Contact Parking Services at 988-5577 for any additional question concerning parking situations.
Crime Prevention and Safety Brochures
Don't forget that Crime Prevention and Safety Brochures are available in the Medical School and the Deming Dormitory lobby. These brochures offer you safety tips for jogging, bicycling, and just everyday life. We also have campus maps, and shuttle schedules available at both locations.
Remember to always report a crime or suspicious person as soon as you can safely do so at Extension 55555 or 85531.
STREET SMART TIPS:
When criminals on the street seek out potential victims, strong consideration is given to appearance. The criminals first determine whether the person is alone , which is the reason we emphasize the need to travel with others. If alone, you don't want to be in an isolated or dark area that you are not familiar with.
The individual's personal appearance comes next. Is the person aware of his or her surroundings, or does he or she appear confused, non-alert or even intoxicated? When walking, it is important that you know what is happening around you , and are going in a purposeful direction. If you see something that looks suspicious, turn around and go the
other way. Trust your instincts!

Please report all incidents or suspicious activity as soon as safety permits. Remember to travel in numbers whenever possible, utilize crosswalks, park in well-lit and populated areas, and to use the TUHSC Police 24-hours Security Escort Services. Stop at the lobby post or call 988-5531 for information and safety brochures. In case of EMERGENCY call 988-5555 or 55555 if on campus, and 911 if off campus.
